Mountaintrails is a mountain activity provider, offering guided walking itineraries in Ireland with an option to hire a private guide. Navigation training courses and hill skills training are also provided.

Mountaintrails are a small, independent, Irish business specialising in guided walking trips and mountain training, founded and run by Russell Mills and born out of his long time love of mountains and wild places. By joining Russell, you can discover a more tranquil side to the mountains, the flora, fauna, geology and heritage.

Russell is a fully qualified Mountain Leader, has a Rescue and Emergency Care, First Aid qualification and is a 'Leave No Trace' advocate and trainer. He has many years of experience leading hikes in the UK and further afield.

Mountaintrails are dedicated to ensuring you have an experience that meets your expectations, whilst working to the highest safety standards. The business has full public liability insurance.

Group size is one of the most important factors determining the kind of experience clients may have. Smaller groups give the flexibility to allow more personal attention, and because of this group size is limited to a maximum of 10 clients.

Mountaintrails are happy to work with larger parties by special arrangement.

GUIDED HIKING

There is a rolling programme of full day guided hikes in the Wicklow mountains, suitable for all ability levels and graded easy, moderate and hard. These normally run on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. You will need to have your own hiking equipment, boots, waterproof clothing, rucksack etc.

Itineraries are planned to take in the best that the Wicklow mountains has to offer, mountain scenery, wildlife and ancient heritage. The hikes end at a village or pub for a comfort stop and refreshments.

PRIVATE/BESPOKE GUIDED HIKING

Mountaintrails are always happy to consider customer requests for tailor-made itineraries, dates, and/or specific requirements that are not covered by one of the set hikes, please contact them to discuss your plans.

For itineraries in the Wicklow Mountains area, inclusive transport can be provided to and from your Dublin accommodation or Dublin city location of your choice.

Please note:

*Pre-booking is required on all hikes.

*Children must be accompanied by an adult or appointed guardian, under 14’s by arrangement only.

*Mountaintrails operate a ‘no dogs’ policy on all their hikes.

*Hikes may be cancelled on safety grounds as a result of bad weather, in this instance a full refund will be given.
