House of Read Fine Foods & Tableware on Parliament Street is considered Dublin City's oldest shop. It first opened in 1670 and still has the distinction of being purveyors of delicious chocolates, eclairs, macaroons, coffees, pastries, treats and sweets. Stop into their café or join one of their workshops lasting up to 2 hours.

To step into House of Read Fine Foods & Tableware is to enter a shop interior that would be recognisable to customers of the 18th century. It is Dublin's oldest shop, once specialising in the finest knives and swords, while also the spiritual home of the Guinness family, as Arthur Guinness' mother was Elizabeth Read. The history of the building, the family, and the House of Read is intimately tied to the history of Dublin.

The stunning interiors and fittings, lovingly restored, display all manner of luxurious treats and giftware for sale in the original fittings and swan neck pediment cabinets, which lend an elegant edge to your visit.
