Explore the beauty of Dublin's coastlines and canals from a different angle as you cruise the water on your stand-up paddle board.
Whether you are a seasoned water-dweller or are just looking to get your sea legs, stand-up paddle boarding is a great way to explore nature while getting fit!
Stand-up paddle boarding, or SUP, is an increasingly popular water sport that can be enjoyed by almost anyone, and is becoming much more accessible as well. With the advent of inflatable stand-up paddle boards, you are now able to carry your paddle board rolled up wherever you go. Along with more options for boards, SUPing can be done rain or shine, in water that is wavy or calm. As well, the depth of the water isn't a huge factor, with many beginners choosing to SUP in shallower waters. However, if you don’t have your own board and SUP gear, not to worry! There are a range of operators across Dublin that you can rent the proper gear and board from, and even get lessons from professionals while you’re there.
If you don’t need lessons or gear and are just looking for the right place to set off, there are plenty of places in Dublin that are perfect for SUPing. One of the most popular spots is Dun Laoghaire Harbour, which is also home to BigStyle SUP School. You’ll also find a lot of fellow SUPers at Grand Canal Dock or in Malahide Estuary as both are perfect places for beginners and to learn stand-up paddle boarding. Other popular SUP locations, with beginners and professionals alike, include Dollymount Beach, Skerries, and Rush south beach.
