Markets in Dublin

Alive-alive-oh!
Street trading and market life have been part of the city’s urban landscape since long before Molly Malone wheeled her wheelbarrow through its streets broad and narrow, hawking cockles and mussels.

That tradition continues to this day, with markets shape-shifting and taste-making as the city continues to evolve.

During the week, village markets enliven various locations with their cosmopolitan slice of street food heaven. Weekend food markets mix it up with specialist stalls and food to eat on the hoof. You can meet stalwarts of the Irish food scene at Temple Bar’s Saturday Food Market – and eat delicious produce as you do.

Or combine a day out by the coast or mountains with a nourishing market browse at St Anne’s Park in Raheny, the People’s Park in Dun Laoghaire, Marlay Park or the seaside village of Howth. Blackrock Market provides a good excuse to get off the beaten track, where fortune tellers, jewellers and florists adjoin burrito stalls, wine bars and the city’s smallest Michelin-starred dining room (with arguably its biggest personality).

Dublin also loves a good book market, Christmas market and flea market. For bric-a-brac, vinyl finds and slick sample sales, the eclectic stallholders at We LOVE Markets bring fresh colour to characterful settings like Dublin 8’s Digital Hub, while at Meath Street’s Liberty Market you’ll find a quick-witted welcome and some of the best bargains in town.
