Historical houses in Dublin

Interior of Newbridge House.
Imposing mansions, towering townhouses and treacherous tenements.
If Dublin’s historic buildings could talk they’d tell quite the tale of the changing fortunes of the town and county.

Luckily, many of the capital’s most architecturally significant and interesting houses are open to the public, inviting guests to uncover living history via guided tours and exhibitions.

The Phoenix Park is home to two of the most impressive: Áras an Uachtaráin, the official residence of the President of Ireland, and neighbouring Farmleigh House, an elegant Georgian and Victorian confection used to host visiting dignitaries.

Literary lovers will enjoy a stroll around the childhood home of Oscar Wilde, while history hunters can experience life as it was lived in the 18th and 19th centuries in 14 Henrietta Street, a once desirable family home of titled gentlemen that became a tenement dwelling for over 100 impoverished Dubliners.
